A Community ENTerprise Operating System, CentOS is a freely-available distribution of Linux, the heralded open source operating system. Brewed up by a band of core developers with support from the user community of enthusiasts, CentOS is based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution, but tuned with community distribution (instead of commercial branding) in mind. CentOS is quick to fix bugs, 100% binary compatible, and features daily updates through the YUM package manager.
