Introducing Bryght Hosting

The reaction to the Bryght Hosted Service has been great. For a lot of our customers, this is exactly what they need: a pre-configured and tested set of Drupal modules that when combined with a nice CSS/HTML based design and some Drupal configuration, allows them to quickly develop a beautiful website with Web 2.0 community features like blogs, tags and RSS, that are increasingly table stakes for all websites.

At the same time, another group of customers who are either more technical or have access to technical folks have been clamoring from the very beginning for something with more flexibility. Something with full server access and full file system access where their technical people could easily add in any of the hundreds of contributed modules from drupal.org or new modules that they developed themselves.

The Bryght Hosting Virtual Private Server (VPS) product was developed with this second group of more technical customers in mind.

It is another product that we are offering in conjunction with our partners at FireBright who are experts in hosting and open source infrastructure such as the LAMP stack and Drupal.

The Bryght Hosting VPS product is designed for our more technical customers who want the flexibility and the power of total server access. It is available in several scalable configurations. Customers pick the configuration that suits their traffic and storage requirements.

The VPS product runs the latest version of Drupal 5 which is currently Drupal 5.1. With each VPS, you get a base set of Drupal modules installed which you can easily upgrade from our public software repository (using SVN for the technical folks out there).

The Bryght Hosting VPS product has not yet been publicly marketed, but has been very successful. There are currently about 100 VPSes deployed. Technically savvy customers appreciate having full command line access via SSH and PuTTY and full file sharing access via SFTP to the server. This gives our customers using the VPS product extra flexibility and power that they do not have with the Bryght Hosted Service.
